As it was important to the nature of this project I researched Erik Spiekermann and how he had contributed to the world of design. This allowed me to conceptualize an accurate representation of him and his work through the body of a poster. Generally I found that:
Spiekermann utilizes a reduced style in his work, with a very fine, fuzzy finish.
Spiekermann has come to embody German typeface and corporate design. He has gained this unparalleled influence through both his work and through the formation of successful companies, like FontShop or MetaDesign.
He usually uses two colours in his design work, black and red.
One of the typefaces he designed, in union with Ralph du Carrois, Anja Meiners and Botio Nikoltchev, is Fira Sans, a humanist sans-serif typeface. Fira is an open font and well formatted for the web usage.
INITIAL DIGITAL DESIGN EXPLORATIONS
Initially chose to use yellow, black, white to represent the foundation of FontShop.
Experimented with FF Meta and Fira Sans to showcase Erik's contribution to typographic design.
Photo was used because project called a photographic of illustrative depiction of the designer.
As expressed previously, yellow, black, and white were utilized to represent Erik's foundation of FontShop.
Utilized the Fira Sans typeface to showcase Erik's contribution to typographic design.
The form of the letter S not only reflects Erik's surname, but also directs one's vision down and across the design.
